14 Memorable Takeaways From the FIWARE Global Summit 2022 – Reason Enough
to Join Us for the Next One!
The *FIWARE Global Summit* in *Gran Canaria* marked the return of
our physical event after 2.5 years. *150+ speakers *from across the globe
joined us in the beautiful city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for two days
of world-class innovation, collaboration, and valuable networking
opportunities. Over the course of the event, attendees had the opportunity
to attend *300+ presentations* and *10+ panel discussions*, showcasing the
power of open source, outstanding use cases that are leading by example,
trending topics in tech, and more. The FIWARE Global Summit is a true
community event; for the community, by the community (and beyond), and open
to all who wish to learn more about FIWARE and how it is leading the
digital transformation.
Considering it was the first big post-Covid open source event, we are
extremely grateful that the FIWARE Community seized this opportunity to
meet in person with both hands. *Dario Avallone* (Chairman, FIWARE
Foundation Board of Directors) also emphasized this during his speech at
the Grand Opening, stating that it was fantastic to see such a great
turnout following a turbulent time. The FIWARE Community continues to
grow and thrive.
This is the first time the FIWARE Global Summit was hosted in Gran Canaria
and we are thankful for the support we have received from the local
community. We would, therefore, like to extend a big thank you to our
hosting partners *SPEGC* and *Cabildo Gran Canaria*, as well as *CidiHub*,
*FIIHub*, *Best In Gran Canaria*, and *Innovalia*.
Fantastic Takeaways
- The event saw *400+ attendees* from all around the world. Audiences
traveled from Europe, Colombia, India, Japan, Martinique, Morocco, Saudi
Arabia, and the USA, among others.
- We welcomed *new FIWARE Foundation Members*, including the first city in
the world to become a Platinum Member: *the City of Madinah*, Saudi

the program, truly making it an interesting and worthwhile event for
thought-leaders, decision-makers, technologists, and developers alike.
- New formats, such as the *Data Spaces World Café*, were successfully
introduced, with the results soon to be published as a white paper.
- The event offered an exclusive *4-day technical training* for those
wanting to gain the skills to develop smart solutions powered by FIWARE.
- There was a *rich side program* with project consortium meetings from
TOKEN and GreenMov. The Spanish Data Office hosted an open event on the
"Governmental impulse to a data-driven reindustrialization", with the
participation of the national hub of Gaia-X.
-* 4 new Distinguished Members* - some of our top FIWARE Evangelists - were
celebrated: Giovanni Coppa, Vincent Demortier, Roberto Di Bernardo, and
Lanfranco Marasso.
- Our brand new FIWARE Impact Story

Palma Smart Island (Canary Islands) and how it monitors volcanic eruptions
is the perfect example of how the region is evolving rapidly as a smart
region.
- The Summit wouldn't have reached the level of success it did without the
incredible support of our Platinum Members (*Atos*, *AWS*, *Engineering*, *Al
Madinah Region Development Authority*, *NEC*, *Red Hat*, *Telefónica, and
Trigyn Technologies*), Global Sponsor (*Fundingbox*), Keystone

- The *Wall of Fame* was a big hit, with 16 exhibitors covering all the
FIWARE focus industries: Smart Cities, Smart Industry, Smart AgriFood, and
Smart Energy.
- The FIWARE Accelerator Programme

which recently welcomed its 10th member, was well represented, providing
great resources for startups and SMEs.
- The Summit marked the *6th birthday* of FIWARE Foundation, and what
better way to celebrate than with the community and, of course, cake!
- There were plenty of opportunities to *network* with fellow attendees
through the Fi-Dinner, VIP Dinner with the public administration, coffee
breaks, as well as a fun mix and mingle.
