[Fiware-mundus-committee] FIWARE Mundus Committee charter and kick-off of activities

Dear Jacques,

Adding people to the mailing list is an easy task knowing how mailman
works, that's the reason why we offer to help. Angeles can perfectly
assist to you in this if necessary.

Any person or organization who is member of the FIWARE Foundation has
the right to join any FIWARE Foundation Mission Support Committee (we
have to update the charter to also include people/organizations whose
membership application is in process as it occurs in other bodies like
ETSI, etc ... it is simply that organizations won't be able to vote
until their membership process is finalized). So indeed we should not
block this that long. I don't see the rationale behind waiting until
end of the week.

As a formal step, the FIWARE Foundation can communicate that the
FIWARE Mundus MSC has been established to members of the Community using
the existing channels (mailing lists, mobilize.io although is going to
be replaced soon, etc). This will be done today or tomorrow. In such
communication, we will explain them how they can apply for being
included (this could be simply an email to the mailing list or use the
mechanism for subscription to lists that the own mailman tool
provides). We have to move fast.

I don't see why discussions that belong to the FIWARE Mundus
Committee have to be discussed first in FI-Global and then later in this
Committee. This is a fundamental issue to bear in mind. FI-Global is a
project which is instrumental for funding certain FIWARE Mundus
activities. That's true at this very moment. But it is not that things
have to be first discussed in FI-Global and then later in this
Committee. Is it a topic of interest to several people in the FIWARE
Community and not just the FI-Global partners? Then, it is a topic that
should be discussed in this Committee, no matter whether part of the
activities concerning that topic are funded through FI-Global or not.

We have to bear in mind a long-term and more global perspective in
which a) activities may persist beyond the duration and number of
projects funding those activities, b) people involved in such activities
may have different ways of funding their participation. This will make
activities more sustainable over time. Besides, leadership of those
activities will not be decided on success to get a project funded at a
given time but meritocracy and the history of engagement of people
contributing over time. I don't see why someone who has been a
chairman of certain Committee has to stop being the chairman of a
Committee because some large project has got funded where his/her
organization is not involved. If he/she can still devote his/her time
to play the role and he/she has the support of the Community, why not.

Angeles is fully empowered to represent the FIWARE Foundation Press
Office and make progress on the discussion of listed topics either by
email or face to face so, please, don't delay then further. It's fine
if you want to wait until the face to face meeting that you will have
tomorrow, to which Angeles and Stefano will be attending. However, it is
important that agreements and actions derived for these points at the
meeting are shared through this mailing list right after the meeting, so
that those members who are not able to attend the face to face meeting
tomorrow can catch up and follow up the discussion afterwards.

   Cheers,

   Juanjo
