    2016
  * *Objective*: Advertise the initiative - in view of the November

portal and twit about it once news online from the FIWARE social

  * FIWARE <https://www.fiware.org/>is partnering with the Global City
    Teams Challenge 2016 programme, GCTC2016
    <https://www.us-ignite.org/globalcityteams/>, which is being
organised under the lead of the U.S. Department of Commerce's
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). FIWARE and
GCTC shares common objectives to provide cities and their
stakeholders with an environment and a programme that can help them
replicate smart cities solutions and services that are efficient and
    scalable, as announced
    <http://www.nist.gov/public_affairs/releases/nist-global-city-teams-challenge-aims-to-create-smart-cities.cfm>on
    16 September by NIST.

FIWARE participates in GCTC2016 with the goal of showcasing the
benefits coming from the adoption of common "de facto" standard
technologies in and for smart cities that FIWARE has been developing
over the last few years. Global de facto standards for portability
and interoperability will indeed contribute to the creation of a
truly sizeable market for smart city services, where developers and
solution integrators can invest with a global outlook on sustainable
    business models.

FIWARE provides an open source implementation of the key standards
promoted by the Open and Agile Smart Cities initiative
<http://oascities>, which currently groups together more than 60
    cities in 12 different countries.

Through its participation to GCT2016, FIWARE also contributes to
build up and strengthen sustainable innovation ecosystems,
leveraging on its valuable experience in engaging with relevant
    players at the European <https://www.fiware.org/mundus-region/>and
    international level <https://www.fiware.org/mundus/>.

Besides FIWARE, several other leading partners worldwide have been
engaged, including US Ignite <https://www.us-ignite.org/>, a
non-profit organization focused on the creation of next-generation
Internet applications that provides transformative public benefit,
who has also been working along with FIWARE during the last year,
and several private and public partners from USA, The Netherlands
    and Korea.

FIWARE is now starting to prepare the next GCTC2016 Event, a 2-days
workshop being organised in November 12 and 13, 2015, at NIST’s
Gaithersburg, MD - registration to the 2 days workshop is now open
    <http://www.nist.gov/cps/global-cities-team-challenge-2015.cfm>.

Stay tuned on the FIWARE channels for more information to come soon!
